The BCMHA Museum and Archives Preserves and Interprets Artifacts Related to the Construction of Hoover Dam and the Settlement of Boulder City:
Our collections are listed by the National Park Service as part of their "Save America's Treasures" program. We preserve, catalog, and curate over 11,000 photographs, over 9,000 biographical and subject files, a 600-book research library, and over 3,500 three dimensional artifacts. Our collections are available to researchers and frequented by students, historians, authors, educators, film makers, and government officials, as well as by Boulder City citizens seeking information on their ancestors, businesses, or homes.
• 11,444 cataloged photographs
• 189 manuscripts including diaries, personal correspondences, printed materials written or collected by individuals, and other two-dimensional records
• 3,500 three-dimensional items including household goods, tools, games, medical apparatus, folk art, fine art, architectural components, decorative arts, furniture, personal items belonging to the men and women who worked on Hoover Dam and settled Boulder City, and many other categories
• A 600-book research library relating to Hoover Dam, southern Nevada, the Lower Colorado Region, Boulder City, and the Great Depression
• 7,500 biographic files related to individuals who lived in Boulder City at some time
• 2,015 subject files include categories of places, events, businesses, or activities that have occurred since the beginning of construction on Hoover Dam and Boulder City
• The historic Boulder Dam Hotel, which serves to provide visitors to Boulder City with an authentic experience encompassing both Boulder City’s past and its present. The Boulder Dam Hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Researcher Access:
We routinely host serious researchers from a range of fields and with a variety of purposes: educators, students, historians, government officials, authors, journalists, documentary producers, etc. Our research facilities are open by appointment.
