Podcast With Chris Tilman, Candidate, Boulder City Justice of the Peace

With this episode, the Boulder City Podcast begins a series of interviews with the candidates for elected office in Boulder City for the primary election in early June. The positions being contested are 1) the Justice of the Peace, replacing Judge Victor Miller, who is not running for re-election, and 2) two positions on City Council where the incumbents are Sherri Jorgenson and Matt Fox. Today, we sit down with Christopher Tilman who is running for Justice of the Peace. Tilman’s background in Boulder City stretches back to the building of the dam where his grandfather was involved. He has lots of experience with the justice system in Clark County and beyond and has appeared in the Boulder City court many times. He spoke with Boulder City Podcast host at their office in Boulder City in April.

Podcast With Boulder City Justice of the Peace Victor Miller

Today we feature a discussion with Judge Victor Miller, Boulder City’s Justice of the Peach for the last 30 some years, with over 40 years serving the town as a municipal judge. Although his name is on the sample ballot, he’s not going to be on the primary ballot in June or the general election ballot in November.  His accomplishments as a judge are too long to list in one podcast, but his formation of the Drug Court in Boulder City has a tremendous success rate, and his involvement in the construction of the city’s courthouse are just a few of them. Three candidates have announced their intention to run for Justice of the Peace and Miller explains the complexities of the job and the hours required to serve in that position. He sat down with Boulder City Podcast host Roger Gros in his courthouse office in late February.

Podcast With Becky and James Hughes, Proprietors, Hanger 502

In this episode of the Boulder City Podcast, we are joined by Becky and James Hughes, the proprietors of Hanger 502, the new deli, bar and restaurant that will open this May in Boulder City. James Hughes spent 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, 10 of those years in Las Vegas. On weekends and holiday, James and his wife Becky would travel to Lake Mead to enjoy boating, stopping in Boulder City before and after each trip. One day in 2021, they spotted a “for sale” sign on the florist shop at the corner of Nevada Way and Arizona. Becky thought it was the perfect place to fulfill her lifelong dream of owning a deli, something that has been missing from the Boulder City scene. But once they gutted the property they realized it was a bigger space than was needed for a simple deli, and they added a bar and restaurant to that dream. Now as they approach the grand opening in the spring of the Air Force-themed Hanger 502, they sat down with Boulder City Podcast host Roger Gros in late February.

His Monster Museum has become a favorite stop for tourists to Boulder City and he’s making his own films on that site. The museum is much more than just a scary adventure, however. Podcast With Adam Stetson, Pastor, Christ Lutheran Church

Sometimes a tragedy can result in something good, and that’s what Adam Stetson, the pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in Boulder City, is trying to accomplish. Adam and his wife Jessica discovered that their son Zechariah had a terminal diagnosis that resulted in his death just three days after his birth. But since they learned that Zechariah had this issue before he was born, they began reading to him while he was in the womb and for the three days of his life. This has resulted in a program called “Reading to Z,” which is affiliated with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, and provides books to children up to five years of age. The Imagination Library is worldwide, but Reading to Z is focused on Boulder City. Adam talks about this program and how it has been received, as well as his faith and his journey with Christ. He spoke with Boulder City Podcast host Roger Gros in August.
